eToro, the multi-asset investment platform, has launched a portfolio for shopaholics just in time for Christmas. The ‘shopping cart’ portfolio lets investors back some of the world’s fast-growing companies without being hit with the usual fees that come with buying shares and funds.
By investing in the portfolio, investors gain exposure to global ecommerce brands such as Amazon, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, sportswear retailer JD.com and eBay Inc, all market leaders in the £20 trillion global retail sector.
The total market capitalisation of the 25 stocks in the portfolio exceeds $1.9 trillion USD, more than the total annual output of the Brazilian economy.
The launch comes at a time when shoppers are spending more and more money online rather than on the High Street and, therefore, the portfolio is filled with firms with strong e-commerce offerings.
The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics reveal that nearly £1 in every £5 (19%) spent in the UK is online as shoppers increasingly value the convenience of internet shopping.
Yoni Assia, CEO and Co-founder of eToro, comments: “We believe that the most successful investors are those who invest in their passions and that’s why we have launched the shopping cart portfolio. Retail is one of the world’s leading sectors, with the industry worth more than £20 trillion, meaning there are plenty of opportunities for investors to make money.
“The sector also includes some of the world’s best-loved and fastest-growing brands producing items that many of us use every day. For these reasons, we believe investors will love our new shopping cart portfolio and will be able to tap into an incredibly dynamic sector.”
The shopping cart portfolio also comes with a risk rating so people can ensure the investment is in keeping with their risk appetite. Initial investment starts from $2,000 and investors can access tools and charts to track the portfolio’s performance while the social feed will keep them up-to-date on developments in the retail sector.
